A Guide to Bathroom Tiles

Most homeowners will remodel their bathroom at least once every ten years they own their home. The remodel will usually be spurred by a repair to the plumbing, or it will be initiated by the homeowner’s intention to sell. What ever your reason is for remodeling your bathroom you need to understand how to select the right tiles for your bathroom. This is because the tiles can make or break the look of your bathroom.

Selecting the Right Tile for Your Bathroom

The first step in selecting the right tile for your bathroom is to decide what type of tile you want to use. Before you go shopping for tile you should decide what type of material you want to use. Your options include ceramic tiles, laminate tiles, vinyl tiles, and stone tiles.

If you will be doing the tile work yourself and you don’t have a lot of experience then you may want to work with a vinyl or laminate tile. These tiles are easy to install and they are easy to cut. They also come in peel-and-stick formats which reduces the amount of prep work that you will have to do to the floor, and it will reduce the number of tools that you will need to install your new tile floor with. These tiles are also less expensive than ceramic tiles and stone tiles.

If you have a tile cutter and have experience installing ceramic tiles then ceramic is a beautiful option to select. The price of ceramic tiles will vary depending on the size and design of the tile. In addition to buying the ceramic tile you will also need to buy adhesive and grout. The tools that you will need include a tile cutter, a trowel, tile spacers, a grout applicator, and a sponge.

Stone tiles are a good option for higher end bathrooms. Stone tiles can create a variety of looks. They are great for log cabins and high end homes. Your stone tile options usually include granite, marble, and slate. Stone tiles are generally going to be your most expensive option, but they can add a significant amount of value to your bathroom, and to your home.

Choosing the Color

After you have decided on what type of tile to use in your bathroom your next step is to select the color palette for your tiles. This color palette should reflect the overall design theme of your bathroom. Your tile colors should also be inviting and appropriate for the space they will be installed in. Keep in mind how much tile your bathroom will have, as well as how trendy the color is. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on overly trendy tiles that will be out of fashion in a year or two. To get the most bang for your buck you will want to select tiles that have ageless beauty, and that will be neutral enough to go with wall color and décor changes that will inevitably occur down the line.
