Getting extra Santa-mental at Christmas: Nine ways to keep yourself occupied

A Christmas break is often seen as an opportunity to wind down. And, with most festive breaks lasting three weeks, there is a copious amount of time for you to read that book you’ve always wanted to or place a cheeky wager on a casino site or even bake that cake you can’t resist.

Getting extra Santa-mental at Christmas: Nine ways to keep yourself occupied

Seeing friends

An obvious one, right? Friends are friends for a reason and hiding yourself away for three weeks will do nothing to perk you up. Putting a smile on your face and focusing your mind elsewhere can lessen the burden of going back to work.

Decorate

christmas party decor

Not in the actual sense of painting, but decorate in terms of lights and Christmas trees. Getting into the spirit of Christmas will provide you with a welcome break from work, but also make your place of living seem that much happier.

Watch movies

How else to get into the spirit of Christmas than to watch the same old movies year-on-year? But, we do it because we love them! Miming the words to Home Alone or watching Will Ferrell in Elf will never get old. Your time off can certainly be filled with joy and laughter-inducing movies.

Read

That book that’s been on the shelf, collecting dust since last Christmas can finally be read. With time on your hands, break open a hardback or paperback and delve into the world of the written word.

Spend time with family

People always say when a family member has passed away that they wish they had done more with them. Well do just that! Don’t spend your time wallowing over what could have been and make it happen.

Online world

You may be a technology geek yourself outside of work. So put that expensive laptop or Macbook to good use and get online. Have a cheeky wager on a casino, slot or bingo site too, if you’re feeling lucky.

Exercise

The inevitable Christmas weight gain is just round the corner, but it doesn’t have to be so. Some form of exercise, whether it’s just a walk or jog each morning can improve your state of mind with the release of endorphins.

Bake

Days mould into days during the Christmas period, and, with time now being on your side, you can do those things that you always wanted to whilst working. Baking could be one of these; often time-consuming, replicating Mr. Kipling can certainly raise morale in the household.

Do something ‘icy’

Ice hockey

Whether it’s going sledding, ice-skating or watching ice hockey, the thrill of snow has never been greater than at Christmas. And, if you have a family of young ones, getting them out of the house and enjoying the current climate will make the break a lot easier.
