5 Reasons Why PC is the Superior Option

There is a now long running debate among computer users about which is the superior option between the two main formats. There is the tried and true PC tradition versus the young hip upstart Mac range. This debate is as fierce as some geo-political struggles, and it’s hard to get good information sometimes, especially if you are looking around a lot of online computer stores.

5 Reasons Why PC is the Superior Option

Here are five reasons why PC still has the edge.

Variety of devices

The fact is that PCs are the only format that offers true diversity and range among their products. The number of different products from the many companies that produce them means that you are always going to find a device that fits in with your lifestyle and your specific individual needs. Whereas if you want to be a Mac user, then you have to fit in with their specifications, use the devices the way they wish them to be used, it’s a technological dictatorship compared to the PC democracy.

Price and value

There is no getting around the fact that Mac models are almost twice the price of their PC counterparts when compared spec for spec. That extra money is basically just going toward the design chic and social currency of owning one of these trendy devices. But, in essence, you are getting a very similar product for a very different price. If you are just looking for a basic computer that does what it needs to well, then it’s pretty hard to make a case against the much cheaper and better value for money models that are available in the windows world.

Software

Unless you’re running high-end creative programs, there’s no reason to go for Mac over PC for range and performance of software. The obvious example is the Microsoft office suite, which is so good that Mac have never been able to mount a campaign for equivalent software and have had to face the fact that their users want the Microsoft programs. The consequence of this is that Mac users never get the most up to date version of the software. And that’s just the iceberg’s tip, program developers are attracted to the relative freedom of the PC world and consequently, there is a much larger range of programs available, often developers will eventually release a Mac version but not always.

Gaming

If you’re a dedicated gamer, then you already know this one, but you might be thinking of graduating from the simple but addictive games on your phone to more interesting games designed for the desktop platform. If this is the case, then you would be making a serious error to go for a Mac over a PC. Apple are very particular about the types of games they will allow on their platform, whereas things are much more democratic in the PC world, so the sheer range of titles available is boggling to the mind. But the fact is that PCs are just way better set-up to handle the increased processing loads that a lot of these games require.

Security

Because of the fixed nature of the Mac universe, it is often held up as offering greater security from cyber attacks, but this has changed over the last few years and as the Mac user base grows, so does the number of viruses created to target this higher number of targets. The only thing that’s going to protect your computer from attacks is good anti-virus software and that is easily available on either platform. Because PC software has been fending off cyber criminals for so long now, they are much better at it than the relatively new anti-virus software available on Macs.

So don’t be swayed by the new and shiny allure of the new kid on the block, there is a reason that PCs still hold a majority share over the market, because they excel with the basics, are more concerned with value than being cool and offer a better and longer computing experience.
