3+1 Celebrity Couples Still Together After Decades

Actors, singers, celebrities of all kinds are best-known for their tumultuous personal lives. If you keep an eye on tabloids, you’ll most likely see news about famous faces breaking up with or divorcing their significant others. One of the latest is Megan Fox and her husband Brian Austin Green parting ways after just five years of “happily ever after” followed by five more years of “with or without you”.

They are certainly not the exception. Celebrity marriages often last only for a few months or years before the seemingly inevitable happens. There are, in turn, couples that manage to navigate the murky waters of marriage and stay together against all odds.

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar

Gellar and Prinze Jr. met on the set of the slasher “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in 1997 and they seem to have “clicked”, even though they didn’t start dating until years later. In 2001, the two announced their engagement and tied the knot in 2002 in Mexico.

Gellar apparently heard too many stories about celebrity marriages that end too soon… so, she took her time but finally changed her name to Sarah Michelle Prinze in 2007, after her fifth anniversary with her significant other. The two are still together after almost 18 years and have two children – a daughter and a son – together.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

For Will Smith, too, it seems that the second time’s the charm. While still married to Sheree Zampino (between 1992 and 1995), Smith met Jada Koren Pinkett on the set of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in 1994. The two began dating a year later and tied the knot in 1997.

The secret to their two-decade-plus marriage? “I will throw my career away before I let it break up our marriage,” Jada Pinket Smith told the press in an interview.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks is not at his first marriage – he tied the knot with actress Samantha Lewes in 1978. The marriage was unsuccessful, though, so the two parted ways in 1987, nine years and two children after their wedding.

Hanks first met Rita Wilson in 1981, on the set of the short-lived TV comedy “Bosom Buddies”. Then, after being reunited while filming the 1985 comedy “Volunteers”, the two tied the knot in 1988. The two stayed together ever since, even going through the perils of COVID-19 together.

+1: Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn

While they didn’t tie the knot, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn form a couple that’s more longevous than most marriages today.

Hawn has been married several times between 1969 and 1980, and Russell himself has a broken marriage on record. The two of them became involved on Valentine’s Day in 1983 and have been together ever since. They even have a son together – Wyatt Russell – and Kate Hudson, Hawn’s daughter, considers Russell to be her father.
