Nursing is a very great choice. Even if you have no background in healthcare, it is never too late to change careers to become a nurse. And, with the current shortage of nurses in the UK a job is almost a guarantee.

Here are some ideas on how to make it possible.

Back to school

Choose your route

There are different kinds of nurses and each type has its own requirements. Do some research to see which kind of nursing most interests you. This way you can set your path right from the beginning and concentrate in the right area.

Here are some examples of the different types of nurses in the UK:

  • Registered Nurse – This is the most common nurse you’re probably familiar with. They take care of the daily needs of patients and administer their medications. They are also usually the head nurses of the hospital.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse – These nurses do most of the routine things a registered nurse does without the responsibility of managing the rest of the nursing staff.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant – These are the nurses that do the most hands on care of the patients including bathing, feeding and other general tasks. Training for this type of nursing is the shortest, but it also pays the lowest.
  • Occupational Health Care – These nurses work in different areas of healthcare but primarily in workplaces. They may be the ones to take care of injured workers or children in school.

Get ready to work

Being a nurse is not easy and the hours are very unorthodox. Yet, if you are unhappy with your career and are looking to change jobs, then the long hours are worth it.

For some, hard work is doing something they hate. They can work long hours doing what they love and it doesn’t feel like work.
