How To Tell If You’re Drinking Too Much Alcohol

It can sometimes become difficult for people to control their alcohol intake, and this can be a real problem for the obvious reasons. In nearly all cases, consumption starts as a social thing when out visiting friends or meeting at the local pub, but before you know it, stopping becomes much harder than you previously imagined, and this could mean you’ve become alcohol dependent. In most countries, the recommended weekly alcohol intake for men is around 21 units, and this should be spread out over no more than 4 units each day with at least two consecutive days reserved for non drinking. The figures for women are slightly lower, where doctors recommend no more than three units each day.

So, if you’ve been getting a little worried lately about the amount you’ve been drinking, spend the next few moments reading through the information below, and you should be in the best position to work out whether or not you have a serious problem. Don’t get me wrong, the points listed below won’t give you a definitive diagnosis, but if you answer “yes” to one or more of the questions I’m about to pose, it’s probably worth booking an appointment to see your GP to fill him in on the issue.

Do You Visit Your Local Pub More Than 3 Times Per Week?

This is a good indication that you may have a problem with alcohol, especially if you find yourself heading to the pub on your own. Sure, you’re going to know some of the people inside, but if the conversation takes a backseat to the alcohol, then you probably need to seek professional help.

Are You Usually The Drunkest Person In The Room?

We all have a friend who ends up getting more wasted than the rest of us, right? Well, although this might be humorous to people who’re on a night out with you, constantly finding you’re the drunkest person in the room could mean you have a serious problem and need to seek addiction treatment.

Do You Regularly Wake Up With A Hangover?

Most hangovers are caused by excessive alcohol intake and an element of dehydration. If you find yourself waking up with a bad head more than a couple of times each month, then binge drinking could be an issue for you. Of course, drinking a few pints of water before heading to bed can help to ease the pain in your head, but unfortunately, your liver will still suffer.

Are Your Friends Getting Concerned About Your Drinking?

If any of your friends have previously mentioned that you might like to control your alcohol intake a little better, this probably means you’re drinking far too much, especially if this comment comes whilst in the pub from a friend who’s also drinking. Like I said previously, alcoholism can often take people by surprise, so listen to the people around you. At the end of the day, they’ll only have your best interests at heart.

So my friends, hopefully now you’ll have a better idea about whether you need to cut down and seek assistance with your alcohol usage. Just remember that addiction is an illness, and although some people may well judge you from a distance, this is your life at the end of the day, and you deserve to be well again.

Stay safe folks!
