  1. Take appropriate clothing

If you’re having a staycation, it’s likely you’ll need different clothing to what you’d take on a beach break. The items you need will depend on the season and what type of holiday you’re going on. For instance, if your holidaying in England in Autumn, it’s wise to invest in several pairs of women’s trousers, an anorak, warm coat, jumpers, t-shirts and comfortable trainers. Having layers means you can tailor your outfit to suit the weather each day.

  • Book activities beforehand

Now more than ever, it’s really important to book any activities beforehand. Many attractions now require you to book a ticket to gain entry due to the coronavirus pandemic, to monitor how many people are entering at one time. To avoid disappointment, spend some time planning where you’d like to visit before your holiday and book your tickets, so you have plenty to do once you get there.

  • Make dinner reservations ahead

Most restaurants are likely to have reduced capacity at the moment, which means they’ll get fuller much quicker. You may not be able to simply turn up spontaneously and get a table for you and your family. For this reason, it’s worth calling and reserving tables ahead if you’re planning to eat out. That way, you’ll avoid a stressful situation where all the restaurants are fully booked when you’re hungry for some food!

  • Have a back-up plan

Britain is renowned for its unpredictable weather – so if possible, make a back up plan in case it takes a turn for the worse. For instance, if you’re planning to walk around the gardens of a stately home and the heavens open, have a back-up plan that’s indoors. Whether that’s heading to a museum, enjoying a boardgame at your accommodation or having a pint at a pub, there are plenty of things to do on cold, wet or windy days.

  • Plan your transport

As well as planning how to get to your chosen destination, you’ll need to plan how to get around once you’re there. If you have a car, it may be worth driving to your destination, so you can avoid coming into contact with others during your journey. If you need to travel by bus or train, check the current restrictions and travel guidance on the government website. By following these travel tips, you can plan a fun and hassle-free staycation for the whole family.
