Clock watching? 5 unusual ways to pass the time

Ever just wished the time would hurry up? We’ve all been there and it’s fair to say that clock watching isn’t pleasant – even if you do have a swanky timepiece from the likes of Tic Watches to stare at every couple of seconds. Being bored and frustrated is no good for anyone, so here are five fun and unusual ways to make the hours pass quicker.

5 unusual ways to pass the time
Fun and Unusual Ways to Pass the Time
  1. Play your own game of snog, marry, avoid

No matter what your marital status is, there’s absolutely no harm in playing a game of snog, marry or avoid in your head. No-one will know but you, so take time to casually weigh people up (being careful not to stare at them for too long as this might rouse suspicion or just make you look like a weirdo), before placing them in your chosen category. Okay, so this is a little wrong but it’s also very funny and will help liven up a long train commute or a dull coffee break.

  1. Learn a different language

If you’ve got time to kill, wouldn’t it be cool to learn a different language (or at least a couple of new words to take home at the end of a long day)? While you could choose the dialect of a country familiar to you, be it France or Spain, you could give your brain even more of a workout by selecting somewhere you’ve never even heard of before. Let’s face it, even if you’re a walking, talking atlas there’s sure to be one country that’s unfamiliar to you, so do the research and get cracking. To help, you could always download one of the many learn a language apps available for smartphones and tablets so you can learn wherever you go.

  1. Learn the rap to your favourite song

It’s all well and good singing along to your favourite song, but what do you do when the rap part comes along? Hum? Try to join in and end up concocting your own words? Perhaps you simply shout out random things on beat in the hope you got it right? That’s seriously uncool, so if you’re looking to pass the time, how about actually learning the lyrics to the fast bits of your most-loved tunes? With so many songs incorporating raps these days, you could transform into Nicki Minaj for an epic rendition of Bang Bang or even practice being Eminem in Love the Way You Lie… the options are endless.

  1. Knit

Knitting is no longer for grannies and hippies. It’s a craft that’s becoming increasingly popular with people of all ages, so if you’re feeling a little down, how about whipping out your needles and yarn? This pastime is not only relaxing but it’s also highly creative allowing you to make everything from jumpers to patchwork blankets. While beginners might want to start with something simple like a scarf, more experienced knitters can download patterns from the internet and create all kinds of goodies including rag dolls and jumpers. Think of the benefits; you’ll never have to buy a readymade Christmas present ever again and will always be prepared for winter.

  1. Make a bucket list

In times of boredom, you might be wondering what you’re doing with your life. This could be the perfect opportunity to make a bucket list of everything you want to do during your time on earth be it visiting the Taj Mahal or climbing the BurjKhalifa. Note down timelines
and how you plan to achieve your goals and do your best to tick each and every item off the list. Sometimes, feeling ground down by the monotony of life is what we need to make changes, so put these emotions to good use and come up with a plan.

We all clock watch from time-to-time, but these five activities should help the seconds fly by.
