Buying a Crib for Your Baby
There are some essentials you need to judge when
looking for a crib for your baby:
a) Is it sturdy?
b) Do you want a model which converts to a
toddler/day bed? (Keep in mind that toddler beds are fairly cheap)
c) Is it easy to adjust the mattress height?
(You'll be doing this as the baby grows taller and can reach up)
d) Is it easy to raise/lower the rail to deposit a
sleeping baby (particularly important as the mattress height goes
down.)
e) Can you see through the footboard, so that you
can check on the baby without entering the room? (important if the
baby is a light sleeper!)
f) Is there an obvious headboard and footboard, or
can it be placed along any wall?
g) Only after you've considered all these factors
should decor really come into play. Be careful about choosing a
model which isn't gender-neutral; you may have more than one child
down the road, and don't want to be forced into buying a new crib.
