Baby’s Development at the age of Two months

Earlier, when she used to smile while looking towards you, it seemed more accidental that real. You had to actually convince yourself that your baby is recognizing you in a special manner than others. You had to know within your heart that she is actually responding back to you. However, the developments were so subtly apparent and showing intermittently that nothing could be taken for granted by you.

Toothless Smiles

Now that your baby has turned two months old, she is showing assertive signs of growth and development.  When your baby gives you a happy toothless smile, you know it is meant for you and not unintentional. The real smile of your baby comes across as an eagerly awaited prize for your patience and dedication day and night ever since her birth. It is one of the most heartwarming milestones that parents experience while their little ones grow up before them. The first smile and the subsequent exchange of smiles, cuddles and tender care of all her needs materializes a never-before bond between you and your little one. In fact, after hours of sleepless night due to her chaotic cries and sleeplessness become absolutely worthless and okay once she genuinely smiles at you, as if expressing a sense of belonging and gratitude. No doubt, the first time when your baby looks at you and (genuinely) smiles at you, it brings tears of happiness and warm emotions rolling down your cheeks and overwhelms you to ecstasy. This moment, sort of, justifies all the trials, turmoil and tribulations undergone by you to borne her. Her smile reimburses your sleepless nights, chaotic days and loss of normal life, with bonus.

Changing Preferences

As your little new born turns two months old, she develops a liking for more detailed and complicated designs, shapes and colors. She earlier preferred to watch two color simpler objects. Now she enjoys watching complex toys and other colorful objects.  So, this is the ideal time to introduce plastic toys and soft balls to your infant. The simpler bi-color or tri-color rattles may be supplemented with more colorful balls or cartoon-based colorful plastic/ rubber toys et al, which she can watch or hold in her hands. You can go for a good quality baby gym for your girl at this juncture. She may also have a lovely time watching musical merry go round hung over her cradle or beddings.

Changing Sleep Patterns

As she is growing up, her sleeping and waking hours are also becoming longer. Now she requires only one or two feeds in midnight. This in turn implies that she is going to sleep the whole night, and the period of sleepless nights for you is almost over. She is all set to sleep for as longer hours, as long as ten hours together, and likewise wake up for equivalent hours. This will substantially bring your life to normal routine and make you feel better about the fresh way of life with an infant by your side.

Smooth Body Movements

Your little one is also gaining control over her body parts. Her movements are gradually loosing the jerks they had earlier.  Owing to the improving co-ordination between her hands, eye and mouth, her movements are getting smoother and more circular in motion. Her earlier instinctive reflexes, including grabbing objects, are being replaced by intentional grabbing of objects et al. However, she has yet to learn to let go the object she grabs.

Her neck muscles are also getting stronger. Now she can raise her head higher and for rather longer period. Though her neck is still not wholly in her control, she is able to move it at her will from side to side. She is gaining weight and getting stronger. She is able to focus on objects seven to eight inches away from her and keep track of their movement with interest. She also smiles and cries to emote.

It is important to note that the descriptions of the two month old above are potential developments of the stage. A child may or may not exhibit achievement of these cognitive milestones at the definite age, as each child has a unique pace of growth.
