I am enjoying
sharing Wedding and Event Planning Tips with you. Just yesterday a
friend asked me about how to start their own wedding/event business
so I thought this issue I would give you insight on just how most
of us get started and to check and see if you hire a wedding/event
coordinator that you are getting someone that is knowledgeable and
professional.

How to Start a
Wedding/Event Planning Business…
If you are looking
to work from home or just enjoy planning parties, events, and
weddings then consider starting a Wedding/Event Planning Business.
The first thing is to research your city and location to determine
the need for a wedding/event planner. Then you will need to decide
how much you have to spend on office supplies and materials. Most
start up items such as business cards, email, website and others
you may get for free. For example:
Visit:
www.vistaprint.com
for free business cards, type in your search engine “Free
Website” and “Free Email” to see other free items.
You will
definitely want to get a book about wedding planning and start
contacting local wedding vendors in your area. Vendors are anyone
that provides a service for events/weddings, such as, hotels,
florists, caterers, musicians, photographers, etc. Another thing to
consider is your enthusiasm to work on the weekends. As you may be
aware, most events take place on Friday’s and Saturdays but do
occur during weekdays too. You will need a quiet workspace in your
home to talk on the phone and for your marketing time online.
If this is
something you are truly interested in doing, you can do it. Visit www.dotcomwomen.com
forums and chat with others that also work from home. Best wishes
in all of your career endeavors!
Tips
~Check with your
local Better Business Bureau to ensure that your wedding/event
planner does not have any complaints against their business
~Visit other
wedding boards and chat groups to see if other people have any
recommendations for a coordinator in your area
~Take your time
and always trust your instincts when hiring a wedding/event
planner. You must get along with your planner as this person will
be spending a lot of time with you.
Q & A
Does an
event/wedding professional have to be certified to plan a wedding
or event?
No. Most
consultants do take courses and call themselves Certified Planners/Consutlants
because they have passed certification courses. However, anyone can
plan an event at anytime. Some people are very natural in this
business and do well planning events without ever taking a course,
however, I would always suggest that you at least know the basic
aspects of wedding planning and event coordination before taking
someone’s money to plan their event!
