Family Camping Tips
One of the fondest childhood memories I have are camping with my
dad. My dad and I would grab our tent, sleeping bags and fishing
poles and head down to a local lake for a weekend. Camping can be a
wonderful activity for the entire family. It can also become a huge
calamity if you are not prepared or don't know what to expect.
If you are not experienced at camping then it might be best to
start with a commercial campground. These campgrounds are often
listed in the yellow pages. The costs of these campgrounds is often
nominal and they usually have showers, bathrooms, electrical
hookups, running water nearby , fire pits and a camp store for any
necessities that you may have forgotten. Established commercial
campgrounds also often have activities for the entire family
including swimming pools, hiking trails, paddle boats and fishing
lakes. Although most of these campgrounds are set up for campers
they almost at always have tent sites as well.
These campgrounds don't cost much and have showers, electrical
hookups, running water nearby, fire pits, bathrooms, and a camp
store if you forget to bring anything. Many established commercial
campgrounds also have a variety of activities for the whole family
to enjoy which include hiking trails, swimming pools, paddle boats
and fishing lakes. While a lot of these campgrounds are typically
set up for campers they almost always have a few tent sites.
After you have some experience camping at an established campground
then you may decide you want to rough it in the woods. If you want
to find places to camp with just you, your tent and the great
outdoors try doing a search on the Internet for great places to
camp.
Regardless of where you go camping the most important thing is that
you are prepared for anything. Here is a list of things you should
consider to make sure that you are prepared for a fun trip camping.
1. One of the most important things you will need is a tent. You
can find tents in various sizes depending on a number of people in
your family.
2. Sleeping bags and an air mattress if you don't want to sleep on
the ground.
4. Matches.
5. Flashlights with plenty of extra batteries.
6. Remember that you'll be cooking on an opened fire and so you'll
need to bring some old cookware.
7. First aid kit. It is important to bring a first aid kit stocked
with Band-Aids, peroxide, gauze, tape, and burn cream.
8. Water for drinking.
9. Trash bags. Regardless of where you decide to go camping one of
the most important things is that you leave the area just as he
found it. Pick up your trash and take everything with you that you
brought. Don't ruin the experience for the next person.
Camping can be a wonderful activity for the whole family. By taking
a little time to prepare for the unexpected you will ensure a great
time for your family.
