Spring Decorating with Sunshine Shades

Welcome spring with a fresh burst of color in our homes. Choose bright and sunny shades and decorate your rooms around the same color scheme. Start with cool and neutral shades for the walls, add color with some brighter shades and then accessorize with more sunshine shades and your home will be ready for spring!

Bright, Cheery Shades for the Walls

Choose sunshine colors that will lend your rooms light and warmth. Creams with a tint of yellow or orange will look cheerful at this time time of the year. If you do not wish to paint the complete room in one single color, select a compatible palette like cream and honey or cream and golden yellow or yellow and orange. Paint the entire room with a warm cream shade and then accentuate with the golden hues. Paint all dark corners with the brighter shade and reserve the lighter shade for longer surfaces.

Linens and Fabrics

White linen curtains, cream or yellow colored cushions or rugs, light-colored slipcovers etc. will give the room a clean and uncluttered feel. To break the monotony, choose fabrics with pinstripes, checks or polka dots in similar, toned-down hues like yellow-honey, cream-yellow etc. Remove all heavy drapes and use light-weight curtains instead.

For bedrooms, classic white linen is best. But you can give your bed some texture by using striped or printed fabric sparingly in some places. You can also give texture by using embroidered bedcovers or knitted throws etc.

Furniture

Add depth to your room by choosing furniture in richer shades like Cherrywood or Rosewood furniture. Furniture made of blonde woods such as maple or ash will be too pale for a neutral color scheme. For bedrooms however, white-painted furniture always works, although wood tones provide a good alternative.

Mirrors and Glass Accessories

Make the most of natural light by using mirrors. use mirrors like framed photographs by pairing 2-3 various shaped and sized mirrors on one wall. Clean all mirrors daily so they reflect sunlight brightly.

Other glass accessories, crystals, stained glass windows etc. will also enhance the bright, sunny look of your rooms. Use them in various places, grouping some and placing some apart.

Accessorize and Accentuate

Accessorizing and accentuating are doubtlessly the most important parts in decorating. They provide character to your home. Once you have created the soft, mellow look choosing creams, yellows and whites so far, accessorizing will help you give your decor the final touch.

You can continue the soft look by adding white china, yellow flowers, honey-colored rugs or lampshades etc. Use candles in lovely spring shades. You can also choose to accentuate with wooden accessories. Choose baskets and wooden boxes of several shapes and sizes. Add wooden artifacts and finish the look with cane or rattan chairs. For a more dramatic look, add accessories in a contrasting color. Choose red or blue cushions, flower vases, lampshades etc.

Some things to keep in mind

1. Keep your spring decorations as much clutter-free as possible.

2. Leave lots of empty space to make your house fresh and airy.

3. Think of all ways to bring in natural sunshine inside. Pull back curtains with curtain-holders and tie-backs and welcome the sunlight.

4. Replace all dark-colored accessories with those in lighter shades.
