Kitchen Decorating Tips

While the main purpose of a kitchen is to have a functional space for preparing food, decorations can make the difference between a good kitchen and a great kitchen that the family will enjoy and that you will love entertaining guests in. Try some of these tips to help you successfully decorate your kitchen.

• Most often, the easiest and cheapest way to give any room a decorative boost is to paint the walls. With the kitchen nearly any color will work well, but many people opt for warmer colors such as pale yellows, reds and oranges. If you are not ready to plunge into a more bold color opt for a neutral such as gray, or beige.

• Don’t like to appliances cluttering your countertop? Hanging a curtain in a print that matches the rest of the decor underneath the cupboards can be a great way to hide those appliances and can add even more depth to the kitchen.

• Add light with mirrors or if your kitchen doesn’t have a window, try hanging a picture of a pretty view inside an old window to create the illusion of a window. A light above the picture will add even more appeal.

• Flowers and plants in the kitchen are always appealing. Hang a plant from the ceiling, set up a plant stand in a bare corner, or create an indoor window box.

• Rugs can be used to cover a floor that doesn’t match your new décor. Make sure to measure before buying a new rug.

• Get new cabinet and drawer pulls. You may not have to money to get new cabinets, but new pulls can really update the way to cabinets look, without spending too much.

• Instead of hiding utensils, dishes and pans in cupboards, display them by hanging them from the ceiling, or on the walls.

• Put up a wallpaper border under the cabinets or stencil on a border.

• Choose a theme or color scheme and stick to it strictly for a put together look.

• Change the lighting. This is extremely simple but can make all the difference. Get rid of fluorescent lights and get an interesting light fixture such as a chandelier to hang over the table or a center counter.
