Easy Home Decorating for Easter
The Easter holidays often get neglected when it comes to
decorating one’s home. It is the highest holy day in the Christian
faith, and there is less of the revelry usually associated with
Christmas. Even though it is a time of great rejoicing, it is more
thoughtful and low-key than other holidays. However, there is no
reason why you cannot use some very simple techniques to add a
special touch to your home this Easter, whether or not you are
entertaining others. Make your family’s own Easter celebration more
beautiful with these inexpensive decorating ideas.
•
To make an unusual centerpiece, find some different glass goblets
or bowls from around the house and turn them upside down. Place
white or gold pillars and votives on top of the upside-down items,
and suddenly your centerpiece looks very sophisticated at a
rock-bottom price. Add some baby’s breath or other fresh greenery
around the bottom, away from any possible flames. See “Easter Flower Arrangements”
for more centerpiece ideas.
• Consider making a wreath or other object to place on your
front door. After all, that is what everyone sees first! See “Making
A Spring Wreath For Easter”.
• If you do not have a set of “dress” linens for your table, use
a plain white fabric tablecloth, ironed and starched. White is
classic and elegant! Besides, it is also a symbolic color for
Easter—for the purity and holiness of Christ.
• Buy Easter lilies, tulips, irises, or hyacinths from the
nursery the day before Easter for the lowest prices. Place one on
your hearth or put several in your foyer for maximum floral impact.
• Place a single flower at each place setting right before the
meal.
• If you have any display crosses in your home, move them all to
a central location as a beautiful reminder of the reason for the
holiday.
• Make sure to use your nicest dishes and silverware, even if
that means doing a little polishing afterwards. China and silver
are meant to be used—if Easter’s not special enough to get out the
china, what occasion is?
• Learn a simple napkin fold to impress your guests and add a
special touch to the dinner table. Here is an example:
Basic Pyramid Fold:
- Fold napkin in half diagonally. Then turn the napkin so the
longest side is on the bottom.
- Grab each one of the bottom corners, and fold corners up to
meet the top point. You should now have a smaller diamond shape.
- Turn napkin over and fold in half.
Pick up at the center and stand on base of triangle in the middle
of the plate. This is a simple, elegant fold.
Whatever your unique decorating taste, make your family and
guests see how important Easter is to you by the way you present
your home. Your decorations do not have to be expensive or
pretentious to convey style, elegance, and class.
