6 Steps to Increase the Value of Your Home

As part of our Sell House Fast initiative, we at Property Rescue want to help our customers get the best price for their homes. Here are our six tips for doing just that…

6 Steps to Increase the Value of Your Home

1. Inspect

Not every issue with your home will be cosmetic; some if it may be hidden beneath the surface. With this in mind, it would be wise to inspect your property. After all, a broken roof, out-dated electrical or heating systems, and a leaking roof can all have an adverse effect on the value of your home.

We would advise hiring a professional inspector to check out the areas of your home that are normally out of view. Small issues (like a hidden leak or damp) can become big and expensive ones pretty quickly.

2. Replace old carpets and rugs

Take a look at the soft furnishings around your home. Are your carpets and rugs looking worn or old? If so, it would be wise to replace them. After all, nothing puts would-be buyers off more than the thought of having to pull up the flooring as soon as they move in. If you’re on a low budget, you can start by replacing the carpet that looks the most worn.

3. Update your kitchen

Is your kitchen is looking a little past it? If you have the budget, we would suggest putting in a new one. Yet as in the case of your carpets, if you don’t have the funds, just make as many updates as your budget will allow. There are plenty of articles on the web that can help you make the most of your budget in this way.

4. DIY

As long as you know what you’re doing, DIY can be the perfect way to boost the value of your property – especially if you’re on a budget. Look for inspiration in design books, magazines, websites and TV programs and use it to brighten up the inside of your home.

5. Go eco-friendly

Insulate the attic, block drafts and replace old fixtures and fittings with new eco-friendly ones. By doing these things, you can make your space look nicer, and save money on your bills. Most importantly, doing this will make your property more attractive to potential buyers.

6. Clean up the garden

Patchy lawns and garden areas full of dead flowers and weeds will make your home stand out for all the wrong reasons. But never fear – taming that overgrown wilderness behind your house is an easy fix. For just a few hundred pounds you can hire a gardener to mow your law and shape/prune your trees and hedges. This will boost your curb appeal without blowing your budget.
