Homemade Father's Day Gift Ideas
Does your Dad have everything he could possibly use or want?
Would you rather make something for him that he will cherish if by
simple fact that you made it for him? Then, here are some great
ideas for making homemade gifts for Father’s Day.
Golf Tee Puzzles
If your dad likes puzzles, he will probably love this puzzle
idea. Get some wood. It can be scrap wood if you wish. Be careful
of splinters. You can take course sandpaper and sand it down if you
wish.
Cut the wood into a triangle shape at least six inches tall at
the highest point. Then with the help of someone, maybe even your
own dad, drill holes into the wood, at least big enough that a golf
tee can sit into. Don’t drill all the way through.
There needs to be 15 holes (an odd amount) one at the top, then
two, then three and so on until the bottom five. Once those holes
are drilled, make sure some golf tees fit in each hole.
Paint and decorate the wooden base if you like. Once it dries,
write down instructions on how to play the game.
Basic instructions: All the holes except one (usually in the
middle, in the row with three) are filled with golf tees. The
object of the game is to remove all of the tees completely. You can
jump over a tee to remove it from the game. You have to jump to an
empty space however on the other side.
Have a tournament to see who’s better, you or Dad.
Decorated Holding Tin or Box
Does your Dad need tins to organize things? If so, decorate a
few tins for him. You can even personalize them with his name, or
with photographs of the family.
Before you paint the tin, you may have to sand it down a little
so that the paint will adhere to the surface. When choosing the
type of paint, remember paints that adhere to a metal or a wooden
surface if using a wooden box. The sandpapered surface will help
the paint set. You can use a base coat of a primer paint.
You can build a simple wooden box from scrap wood. Use nails or
screws and make sure you sand the pieces before putting them
together. Use a primer paint or stain the wood with a favorite
stain.
Homemade Keychain
There are several different ways to make a homemade keychain.
Blank keychains are available. These keychains have a slot to put
photographs or other pictures into the keychain to personalize it.
You can also buy keychain rings and make your own keychains with
just about anything, from craft foam to pipe cleaners.
Business Card Holder
Does your dad carry around a lot of business cards? Make a
business card holder using popsicle sticks. Take three popsicle
sticks and lay them flat. Take a piece of burlap, felt or craft
foam and make it cover the three popsicle sticks. Let that dry.
Make two more of these for the side walls of the card holder.
Take two other popsicle sticks and cut off the ends, about quarter
inch pieces. Add two end pieces, one on each end, onto the two
walls of the holder. Give a little overlap. Glue the walls to the
base using the overlapped pieces. You can put a book or prop
something up next to the walls to keep it steady while it dries.
Use super glue or a glue gun with glue that dries fast.
Once everything is dry, decorate the business card holder anyway
you wish.
Picture Frames
Picture frames are always great gifts for Dad. Make a picture
frame using popsicle sticks or twigs. Twigs give the frame a rustic
look.
First, choose the picture to be used and note the size of the
picture. Think about how you want to frame the picture.
Find twigs or sticks at the size that you will prefer usually
the size of the picture. You can find some smaller ones to fill in
any gaps.
Add a hard backing such as cardboard, wood or heavy stock paper
to the picture. Attach it with glue, tape or other adhesive. Make
this backing at least one or two inches bigger than the picture.
Glue on the twigs and any other decoration such as seashells,
buttons, pressed flowers or other small objects. You can attach a
picture hanger on the back or make a holder for the frame so that
it can stand up.
