Valentine’s Day Treats for Classroom Parties

A lot of moms like to be able to send their child to school with a special treat for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day. But you may want the treat you send with your child to be different from the tables of cupcakes that will be waiting in your child’s classroom. Below are some wonderful ideas for some different treats that you can send to school with your child.

A great treat that is healthier than cakes and cookies are chocolate covered pretzels. Simply buy a bag of pretzels, chunks of white chocolate, and chunks of milk chocolate. Melt the different types of chocolate in different pans and dip the pretzels in. Once the pretzels have been fully coated, sprinkle them with red candy heart, or red sprinkles. You can also add some red food colouring to some of the white chocolate to make some of the pretzels red.

Another treat that you can send comes in the form of an actual valentine. You will need some red construction paper, markers, glitter glue or glitter, anything to decorate the valentine with, and some Tootsie rolls. Cut out hearts from the red construction paper and have your child decorate them. Then have your child write the name of one classmate on each heart. Once they have all been named, cut two diagonal slits in the heart, so that the length between the two is shorter than the Tootsie roll. Place the Tootsie roll between the two slits to make it appear as though it is an arrow through the heart.

You can also send arrow-shaped treats to school with older children. To create these you will need: a wooden skewers (about six inches long), packs of gum that have red packaging (such as Big Red), gumdrop hearts, glue, and tissue paper. Pierce the skewer through a pack of gum so that the gum ends up in the middle of the skewer. Then place the gumdrop heart at the end of the skewer. Complete the look by tearing or cutting pieces of tissue paper into thin strips and gluing them onto the end of the skewer.

Candy bracelets are always a big hit among kids and you can make your own to make it even more fun! To do this, take a foot long piece of plastic wrap and cut it in half lengthwise. Next take candies that are individually wrapped and place them on the plastic wrap approximately every three inches. Roll the plastic over so that the candies are between pieces of plastic wrap. Take small bows and tie them in between the candies. To finish it, tie the ends of the plastic wrap together and cover the knot with another small ribbon.

There are many things you can do to set your treat apart from the many that will be showing up at your child’s school on Valentine’s Day. There’s also the added benefit of spending time having fun with your child while you create the treats together!
