Whisky-based Cocktails
Manhattan
Considered the classic of the whisky drinks, the
Manhattan was named after the New York locality where it was first
drunk in the 1890s.
2 measures rye
1 measure sweet vermouth
1 dash Angostura bitters
Cocktail Cherry
Twist of lemon peel (optional)
Stir the rye and sweet vermouth with a dash of
Angostura bitters and garnish with a cherry. T make a dry
Manhattan, replace the sweet vermouth with the dry; and for a
perfect Manhattan use half sweet and half dry vermouth and garnish
with a cherry and a twist of lemon peel.

1/2 Jamaica rum
2 oz orange
1 tsp lemon juice
Falernum or sugar syrup to taste

shaker, pour into a cocktail glass. Top up with grenadine.
Rusty Nail
An all-time favorite with Scotch drinkers. In
Britain, this drink is usually prepared without ice and served at
room temperature.

1 measure Drambui
Twist of lemon peel
Pour the Scotch and Drambui into a glass, with or
without ice cubes as preferred. Drop in a twist of lemon to

sugar syrup to taste
twist of lemon
Shake & strain into a cocktail glass and
serve with a twist of lemon.
Old-Fashioned
This drink is not too hard to make, and is
generally served in a Old-Fashioned glass. A venerable drink with a
long history, so familiar that one of the glasses which is still a
standard today carries its name.
1 lump sugar, saturated with bitters
Splash of soda
1 slice orange, 1 cherry, and ice cubes
Over a teaspoon of sugar add a couple of dashes of
Angostura bitters and a little water. Stir to dissolve the sugar
and fill the glass with ice. Top up with rye, decorate with a
cherry and a twist of lemon peel, or a slice of orange. Serve with
a stirrer.
