Autumn/Fall Party Ideas
Plan a Progressive Leaf Raking Party
(FeatureSource) Raking your lawn this fall doesn't have to be a
lonely, back-breaking activity. Luann Grosscup and Jo O'Connor
Tazelaar have a great idea for getting the whole neighborhood
involved. Their book, "Instant Parties" (Meadowbrook Press), has 50
fun theme parties, including Progressive Leaf Raking. Grab your
gloves and bags and get the party started.
Set up a potluck buffet at one house, or have each participating
household provide a different part of the meal when the raking is
done in their yard. Go for hearty, enticing autumn fare such as
chili with all the fixings (onions, sour cream, cheese, jalapenos),
warm garlic bread, chicken noodle soup served in mugs, corn bread,
taffy apples, big peanut butter, chocolate chip, or oatmeal-raisin
cookies, and maple fudge. Wash it down with water, apple cider, hot
cocoa, and flavored coffees.
Pull out a boom box and turn it to a peppy radio station that
everyone can agree on. Play "Name That Tune" if the DJ doesn't
announce the song. Get the kids involved--they'll think this work
is play. If there's too many pokes by big rakes in little hands,
send them to the backyard with some supervision and they'll still
enjoy the food and the fun.
