Egyptian Themed Kids Party
Invitation:
Create an ancient looking scroll invitation by getting
aged looking paper. Tear the edges and use brown ink on
them to make it look old. Write the party information on
the paper and tie it with twine.
Decorations:
Create pyramids out of boxes, by unfolding the box,
turning it inside out and folding one placing one side
over another so that it forms a triangle. Remove one of
the lid flaps and fold the others over and tape them
down. You can decorate the outside if desired with paint.
Use butchers paper to create big banners with Egyptian
hieroglyphics on them.
Games:
Egyptian Tug-of-War
You need to have an even number of players. Use chalk or
a piece of string to make a line on the ground between
the two teams. Everyone is to link elbows and pull. The
object is to pull the other team over the line.
Head Carrying Relay
The ancient Egyptians used their heads to carry loads.
Set up a relay with this in mind. Have a bundle of towels
or a basket filled with other items for each relay team.
Each person must walk to a certain point and back without
loosing their load. The first team to finish wins a small
prize.
Archeological Dig:
Bury some small gifts and prizes such as necklaces and
toys in a sandbox. As the kids arrive tell them they are
going to go on an archeological dig in Egypt. Give them
buckets, brushes and shovels and let them find their
prizes.
Craft:
Set large sheets of butcher paper up on a wall. Provide
the children with markers or crayons and pictures drawn
by the Egyptians. Have them draw self-portraits the way
the Egyptians did, with their head, eyes, legs and feet
as if you were looking at them from the side, but the
body as if you were looking at it from the front.
Food:
The Egyptians ate mostly grapes, figs, apples, melons and
pomegranates. They also made flat bread. They ate with
their fingers and were given finger bowls to wash them at
the end of the meal.
