Easter Egg Hunts in Inclement Weather

One of the activities that is most commonly associated with Easter is the Easter egg hunt. This often takes place outdoors and children search behind trees and in the garden to find those valued Easter eggs. But if it’s raining outside, you definitely don’t want your children to be looking for the eggs in puddles so it’s time to bring them inside. Don’t let the rain spoil your fun though! There are lots of ways to keep the Easter eggs hunt fun without getting soaked! So if it’s calling for rain on the big day, you might want to have a back-up plan!

The first thing to do is to bring the hunt inside. Fill the coloured eggs with treats and small toys and hide them around the house. This can be even more fun than doing it outside because you might find more places to hide the eggs. Place one in the arms of your child’s favourite stuffed animal or put a few in the toy box. Make the hunt extra fun by placing clues around the house that will lead to the discovery of the eggs! Start with a note at the breakfast table at your child’s place setting. You can make the clues as simple or difficult as you like, depending on your child’s age. Place the next clue on the egg so they can continue to solve the riddles!

Find out beforehand if there are any community Easter egg hunts happening in your neighbourhood. Lots of churches and community centres will hold these events and it’s a really fun way for children to hunt for their Easter eggs while playing with other children. If there’s not anything happening in your community, you can call some friends and relatives that have children and coordinate together to have it at someone’s house. This is a great way to spend the day together before that big Easter dinner!

Besides the actual egg hunt, there are many wonderful Easter activities that can be done inside while the rain continues to drizzle outside. Easter crafts are a great way to celebrate the holiday. It also allows for a chance to sit down with the kids and talk about Easter and why it is special to you and to your family. One very fun craft is a chick hatching from an egg carton.

There are lots of other crafts that can be found in craft books or online. Just be sure to check beforehand so you have all the supplies that you will need and any advance preparation that needs to be done can be finished before Easter morning. You can also find online countless Easter colouring pages that will make a great activity for Easter morning!

Don’t let bad weather spoil your Easter fun! Just get creative and find the many activities that will have kids wishing that it rained every Easter!
