Easter Party Ideas For Kids
Children will understand the meaning of the Easter
season more if you extend it beyond just Easter Sunday, fancy new
clothes, and chocolate Easter bunnies. This year, why not have an
Easter party for your children and their friends? Celebrate the
resurrection with stories, games, and springtime fun! Some of these
party ideas can also be great Sunday School activities.
Here are some easy and fun ideas for a kids’ Easter
party:
Confetti eggs: To make confetti eggs (do this in advance) all
you need to do is get ready to eat a lot of eggs! Or, you could
just break eggs carefully each time you cook an egg dish. To open
the eggs the “right” way, you need a butter knife. Tap the top of
the egg in a circle and carefully remove the top. Empty the egg and
rinse out thoroughly. Put back in the egg carton upside down to
dry. Once you have a lot of empty eggs, fill them with confetti and
shredded paper. At the end of your party, hand them out to the kids
and let them run around outside and “smash” each other with the
eggs. They love this! It’s worth asking other parents to save eggs
too so you can have a lot of these. Also, something that parents in
my area once did was ask a local diner if they could come in one
day and crack the eggs for breakfast. They got dozens of eggs for
their spring carnival this way!
Decorating sugar cookies: Bake big sugar cookies in the shape
of eggs, crosses, bunnies, or whatever else you can find that goes
with an Easter theme. Make pretty pastel icing, let the kids
“paint” their cookies, then let them chow down!
Stuffed Animal Easter Parade: Have each child bring a favorite
stuffed animal. Make available materials like paper, felt,
feathers, pom-poms, and chenille sticks. Tell the children there is
going to be a stuffed animal Easter Parade, and they need to make a
hat for their stuffed animal. Have a parade! Play fun music and let
the kids march around the yard. Give silly awards after the parade
for categories like “Biggest Hat”, “Tiniest Hat,” “Most Feathers,”
“Most Colorful,” and “Silliest Hat.”
Rolling Stone Game: Read a short children’s version of the
Easter story together with the kids. Talk about the heavy stone
that was rolled away from the tomb. Then divide them up into teams
and have a relay race! Object: to roll a “stone” to the flag and
back, and pass it to the next person. Use a beach ball or other big
ball. Kids may not pick the ball up off the ground, only roll it.
First team done wins!
Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt: This twist on the classic requires a
little advance planning. Have two separate “hunts” for each team.
Give each team the first clue. That will lead to an egg with the
next clue, and so on. At the end there should be a fun prize or
treat for everyone, with something extra for the team that finishes
first.
I hope you enjoy these simple Easter party ideas
for kids! Remember, kids just want to have fun. If you have a
teaching activity, tie it in with a special treat or game, and they
will love it. Happy Easter to all of you!
