The Liposuction Recovery Guide

Well, I did it! I finally went through with the decision I made months ago to get my liposuction procedures done. I had started on a rigorous workout plan at the start of the year as I was totally and utterly determined to shift the weight that I had put on after having my two children. My husband was entirely supportive and I was lucky enough to be able to take the time off work to recover and to heal my body. I have to say, I am completely delighted with the results and have never been happier with my body. I am even able to go shopping for clothes in regular clothing stores – something that had sadly eluded me for a year or more now. I can’t attribute it all to liposuction, and my early mornings at the gym for the past six months are certainly a testament to that, but liposuction is about helping you reach that final step – and to remove the fat that a workout and diet based program just can’t shift. That was why I decided to go through with it in the end.

The Liposuction Recovery Guide

I wanted to share my post-surgery recovery guide with you here today as I know that if I hadn’t followed these steps, my recovery would have been a whole lot worse and I could have suffered from some of the potential complications related to the surgery. So take a look here!

That ugly post-surgery garment? Yeah, you should wear it all the time

You’ll have to take painkillers and you might be given antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection immediately after the surgery. The post liposuction garments that they give you to wear are designed to evenly distribute the pressure all over your body and to relieve the swelling on the area. It’s vital that you wear these garments as they will reduce bruising and reduce the risks of blood clots in your body. You can take it off to shower and to clean yourself but apart from that, it’s going to be your constant companion. I was advised to get my surgery done in the wintertime for this reason and I’m really glad I did.

Bruising and numbness

There is going to be a lot of bruising and numbness in the area where you have had the surgery. The bruising is only going to be worse when a large area has been treated, and the deep bruising and swelling may last for up to to six months! Mine has gone down a lot, but speak to your surgeon if you have concerns. If you have any numbness, it should go away in around six to eight weeks after the procedure, and you can use painkillers to relieve any pain from swelling or bruising.

Returning to normal

You’ll take a little while to recover from liposuction, although you should be fine to head back to work in a couple of days if a small area was all that was treated. If you have had a large area treated, you may need up to two weeks off work to recover properly. Remember, you only have one chance to recover properly here so it makes sense to do it properly the first time!

Activity and exercise

Speak to your doctor about this one, but you should try to avoid strenuous activity and stress for around a month, though walking and getting around should not be a problem in most cases. In all situations, be sure to speak to your doctor to get their expert advice on this.

Staying fit and healthy

The only thing left to do once you’ve recovered fully from your liposuction is to ensure that you maintain a gorgeous and rocking body! Avoid fatty foods, don’t smoke, don’t drink to excess and keep up the exercise routine.

I know I have never been happier with my body and I owe it all to the choice that I made to get liposuction! It’s been a dream and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to shift those final few stubborn kilograms.
