Psycho Hunger – Save Yourself from Obesity
Obesity is one of the biggest problems facing the nation today.
Health problems due to obesity are a major concern. Junk food and
other fatty food substances have compounded the problem. There are
different reasons why we are not able to resist having food more
often than what is actually required.
Obesity can be caused by a new phenomenon called Psycho-Hunger. It
is the situation where you find yourself feeling hungry minutes
after you had a good whole meal. If you are a victim of
Psycho-Hunger, your mind fools you into believing that you are
hungry or you misinterpreted the signals sent by your body as
hunger. This could be due to one or more of the following reasons.
1. You are bored. Because you are bored, you tend to reach
out for food when your body does not really require it. When you
have nothing else to do, you naturally reach out for food to munch
on. When you watch television because you are bored, you do not
realize that you are eating a lot more.
2. You could just be thirsty. When you feel thirsty, the
mind misinterprets it as hunger and you might as well reach out for
a pack of junk food.
If you have food that is easily digestible like sugary food, you
will feel hungry pretty fast. This leads to a situation where you
would eat more that your body’s requirement. We have ways to tackle
this problem.
1. Curb the temptation to have food when you are bored and instead
do something to distract you.
2. Drink a lot of water after your meal. This way you would not
feel thirsty that will lead you to have more food. Identify the
bodily signals. Your body might actually be asking for water.
3. If you really cannot resist having food, having high fiber food
is a good option. This takes more time to digest and keeps you from
eating more food. Also, there is always a wide range of healthy
foods like fresh fruits and other non fatty foods.
Fight it – don’t succumb to it.
