Valentine's Day Craft Activities for Kids
Valentine's Day isn't just for couples. Children of all ages can
enjoy celebrating this "love-ly" holiday. Check out the following
ideas for keeping your little ones happy and entertained this
Valentine's Day:
Valentines
Kids love making valentines for their friends, family and
classmates. Sure, you can buy ready-made valentines, but making
them is just more fun. Provide your little artist with a variety
of supplies, such as: colored construction paper, safety scissors,
glue sticks, markers, glitter, lace doilies and magazines to cut
pictures out of. Then, let their creativity run wild!
Paper Heart Wreath
Another fun idea is the paper heart wreath. Have your children
draw large hearts on pink and red construction paper and cut them
out using safety scissors. Then, cut a large hole in the center of
a paper plate. Glue the hearts on the remainder of the paper plate
in a pleasing arrangement, then hang.
Coloring Pages
Valentine's Day theme coloring pages are a great way to keep kids
of all ages occupied. For older kids seeking a bit of an
intellectual challenge, try printing some Valentine's Day theme
crosswords, word searches and mazes. Coloring pages and fun
printables are available for free all over the Internet.
Heart Shaped Cookies
Heart shaped cookies are fun to make and to eat! Let children help
cut out sugar cookie dough using heart-shaped cookie cutters. You
can buy ready-made sugar cookie dough, or make it from scratch
using your favorite recipe. Once cookies are cool, let kids
decorate them with pink and red icing and sprinkles.
Valentine's Day Coupons
Kids love making Valentine's Day coupons as gifts for their loved
ones. Cut out rectangular coupon sized pieces of construction
paper and let kids illustrate them with colored markers. Coupons
can be for goodies such as one chore, one hug, etc.
Heart Paper Chain
The heart-shaped paper chain is another fun activity that can keep
kids busy. Show children how to cut hearts out of folded pieces of
construction paper. Then, hook hearts together by making a cut in
each one, looping it into the previous heart and securing with
clear tape. The more times you do this, the longer the paper chain
will become.
As you can see, there are plenty of fun activities for children to
do this Valentine's Day. Tailor the activities in your home to the
ages and preferences of your kids. Everyone can get into the
spirit this Valentine's Day -- no matter what age they are!
