Have Fun on St. Patrick’s Day Making Crafts with the Kids
Kids love crafts almost as much as they love any
holiday. So it only makes sense to spend some time with on St.
Patrick’s Day with some of your best craft items making some of
the most festive decorations!
Pots of Gold
This is a great craft that kids to do to make
their very own pots of gold. You can make several of them to
decorate your home or you can make them with your child and then
send them to school with him or her to help make their classroom a
little more festive. You will need: baby food jars that have been
cleaned and the labels removed, pennies, black craft paint, gold
craft paint, and paintbrushes. Using a paintbrush, paint the baby
food jar black. Place the jar on some newspaper and allow to dry
fully. Once completely dry, use the gold paint to write “Happy St.
Patrick’s Day” on it with gold paint. Set it on newspaper once
again to dry and then fill the jar with pennies. Your child will
be delighted with their pot of gold!
Leprechaun Rainbows
For an extra special and extra lucky rainbow to go
with those pots of gold, all you need is: paper plates, scissors,
markers, a hole punch, and string. Cut the paper plates in half.
Using the markers, draw lines as the colours of the rainbow on the
plate halves. The stripes of the rainbow can be as thin or thick
as the child likes, just make sure that they cover the entire
plate. A hole punch can then be made in the top of the plate and a
string placed through the hole and knotted at the base of the
string. These can now be hung up as wonderful St. Patrick Day
decorations!
St. Paddy’s Wreath
This wreath is easy to make and adds wonderful
décor to the door of any home or classroom. You will need:
Styrofoam wreath, shamrock-shaped foam cut outs, black pot of gold
shaped foam cut outs, yellow foam circles, gold glitter, a
claddagh decoration (this is a decoration in the shape of ring
with two hands holding a crowned heart), green acrylic paint,
paintbrush and glue.
Start by painting the wreath green and allowing it
to dry completely. Then glue the shamrocks onto the wreath. You
can place these strategically or you can cover the entire wreath
with them, which provides a nice look. Then glue the yellow foam
pieces to the black pot of gold pieces and allow them to dry
completely. When they are completely dry, turn them over and put
glue on the front. Cover the glue completely with gold glitter.
Once this glue is entirely dry, glue them onto the wreath.
Cover the bottoms of the yellow foam circles with
glue and sprinkle these with gold glitter as well. You can then
glue these circles together as groupings of three (to resemble
coins.) Once they are completely dry, glue them onto the wreath.
Finish the wreath off by gluing the claddagh onto
the bottom of the wreath.
