Every little girl dreams of being a fairy princess! Your little fairy can wear a leotard and tutu with matching tights, or their favorite pretty dress — the fancier, the better! Craft makeshift wings with heavyweight poster board or cardboard, then paint or color them to make them look like real fairy wings. To attach them to the rest of the Fairy Princess costume, punch holes at the bottom edges of the wings, thread ribbon through the holes and tie around the waist. If making the wings is too challenging, you can easily find a pair online or even at your local costume shop that attach easily to any costume. For makeup and hair, think romantic and glittery. Go for soft shades of lavender and pink with accents of glitter on face, then spray hair with glitter and add a sparkling tiara.
80′s Girl (or Guy)
This fun costume brings the eighties back, and is so easy to do! Some ideas for eighties wear include parachute pants, tights and legwarmers, armloads of jelly bracelets, huge puffy hair, dramatic makeup, and clothing in bright patterns. Try giant earrings, bright makeup colors, spray glitter in hair, and anything else that says eighties to you to dress up your kids in an 80′s Halloween costume.
To turn your child into a cute kitty, first start with a leotard and matching tights in the color of your choice. Black and white are always good choices for a Cat costume for Halloween! Make kitty ears by crafting them out of cardboard or posterboard, then hot gluing them to a matching headband. For a tail, use a velvety fabric or even a skinny feather boa in a matching shade. Hot glue some Velcro to the end of the tail for easy attachment. Slick hair back with gel before putting on ears. For cat or catgirl Halloween makeup, go for a pink or black nose, catlike black eyeliner, and of course, whiskers painted on with black face makeup or even eyeliner.
A bunny is another easy to create costume that can make use of a leotard and tights. White, brown or black are all great choices for a bunny costume, or go whimsical and choose pink! For the bunny costume ears, use stiff cardboard or poster board in a round shape and hot glue them to a headband. For the tail, use the largest, fluffiest powder puff you can find. To attach it to the costume, simply hot glue a piece of Velcro to the underside.
A butterfly is similar to a fairy princess, at least when it comes to the wings. Start off with a leotard and matching tights in any color of your choice. You can even add a short, colorful flouncy skirt if you like. Then, cut out butterfly wings from posterboard or cardboard and paint them to look like butterfly wings. As with the fairy costume, attach by punching holes in the edges of the wings and using a long ribbon to tie around the waist. Make butterfly costume antennae by gluing pipe cleaners to a headband then bending them slightly for a realistic look.
