Crafts Clay Pot Sunflower Candy Dish
This sky blue and happy sunflower candy dish is a cute way
to brighten up any area. Use a clay pot, clay dish, fake
flower, fake leaves, paint, and some glue to create a
shallow dish on a pedestal. Fill it with candy, potpourri,
decorative rocks, or just about anything. You can even
skip the pedestal part and just make a dish.

Materials:
Clay pot - 4 inches tall, 5 inches wide
Clay Pot Dish - 5 inches wide, about 2 inches deep
Fake Sunflowers - 10 - about 1 and ½ inch big
Fake Sunflower Leaves - 10 - about 2 and ½ inches long
Sky blue paint
Light blue paint
Yellow paint
Paintbrush
Hot glue gun and glue
Candy Dish Instructions:
1. Paint the inside of the dish a light blue. Paint
slightly over the top of the rim, so that the paint just
covers the rims of the dish, as shown in the “Step 1”
picture. Let dry.
2. Flip the dish over, as shown in the “Step 2” picture.
If you’re making the pedestal pot part, now would be a
good time to paint it blue too. Cover both with an even
layer of the sky blue paint. By placing the dish down,
you’re creating a natural straight line between the light
blue and the sky blue. Since the flowers and leaves will
be covering most of this area, it’s OK if the line isn’t
perfect. Let the paint dry.
3. Get the hot glue gun warmed up and glue the leaves
around the outside of the dish, as shown in the “Step 3”
picture. Glue them on in a high-low-high pattern, again as
shown in the picture. Cover the dish all the way around.
Let leaves dry.
4. Now it’s time to glue the sunflowers over the leaves.
Glue the flowers on in a “low-high-low” pattern. So if you
have a low leaf, glue a high sunflower over it. If you
have a high leaf, glue a low sunflower over it, as shown
in the “Step 4” picture. Cover dish as shown, and let
flowers dry.
You can just stop with this step and use the decorated
dish alone. If you want to add the fancy clay pot sand,
follow the instructions below.
Pedestal Instructions:
1. Turn the clay pot over and paint it the same blue as
the dish, if you haven’t already Let dry. If you want a
decorated pedestal, use the light blue paint and make
small dots on the body of the clay pot, as shown in the
“Sunflower Candy Dishes“ picture. Let dry.
2. Paint a yellow stripe at the beginning of the pot rim,
as shown in the “Sunflower Candy Dishes“ picture. You can
glue a yellow ribbon around it instead if you need to make
things easier.
3. Glue candy dish to pedestal, as shown in the most of
the pictures already. Let dry.
Notes:
Depending on personal taste, this craft can be a simple
candy dish to sit on the table, or a fancy candy dish with
a stand. It’s also perfectly suited for potpourri,
decorative stones, beads, gems, and even works as a
jewelry dish.
The best paint choice is waterproof, shiny, craft,
spray-paint. It goes on quickly and evenly, and doesn’t
need a sealer or varnish. If you choose to use plain craft
paint, you might want to waterproof the dish and/or pot
before decorating them. This way you can clean them with a
damp rag.
The reason the candy dish is already sitting on the pot in
many of the pictures is because it makes a better picture
and displays the dish much better. So don’t worry about
when you glue the pedestal on, just remember to paint
first.
