Internet Marketing 101

With the popularity of the internet, chances are most of us own a website or two. It is no longer a hobby for just the socially challenged, or the boy who could never get a date on a Friday night. Luckily, it has become one of the most popular pastimes of the decade. However, with such popularity, the ability to get your website seen is extremely difficult. Thousands of websites are created everyday, yet many of them are rarely seen by more than a few pairs of eyes.

Even though there are many different types of websites, every webmaster can use a good marketing plan. Whether their agenda is to create a huge network of Spielberg fans or to generate revenue from their products, it is essential to use internet marketing.

Generating Traffic

One of the first steps to a great internet marketing plan is to figure out a way to generate traffic. Without a daily stream of loyal visitors, it will be impossible to create a community or make a large sum of money. The most important thing is to submit your site to search engines and directories and get a good ranking on them. However, the only way to get a good page rank is to get many link exchanges. In order to increase traffic, one must focus on their specific niche. For instance, if you own a site based upon guitars, it is important to network with other guitar webmasters. By e-mailing the site owners of these popular websites or blogs, it will allow you to network with people who know what they are doing. Perhaps they will link exchange with you, and this will also help your search engine rank, as long as you have a fair amount of back links

If you already have a great website but need more visitors, another great way is to use Adwords. This pay per click program allows you to purchase advertising space which will appear on search engine results, depending upon the key words you choose. It is also obligatory to use Adsense, which allows you to generate revenue for every ad that has been clicked on. However, if you own a website and do not have a product to sell or do not want to place ads on your space, there are other ways to market your site and still generate revenue. Affiliate programs are a great way to make money. These programs let you sell their products on your own website. For instance, Amazon.com gives you the opportunity to sell their products. If visitors start purchasing these items through your site, you get a certain percentage. This commission will increase, as long as you keep the products on your website.

An additional way to market your site is to create an E-book. This is an online book which usually includes multimedia. For example, if you have a cooking website and are offering your own recipes, you could write an E-book on how to make the best meal. This is a great way to not only make money, but also get your website out there. It also is crucial to contact other cooking webmasters. By asking them if they’d like to write a testimonial, you will start a friendship and also probably get a mention on their site as well.

With dozens of internet marketing strategies on the web, it is extremely easy to get traffic to your website. Although word of mouth can work wonders, it is not a realistic way to gain a loyal following of visitors. By networking with other webmasters and thinking of creative ways to market your site, you will be well on your way to making a lot of money.
