Taylor Swift’s Style Philosophy

With Taylor Swift’s new album set for release on the 27th this month, we can’t help but look through her amazing sense of style. From those blonde curls and cowboy boots at the start of her career as a country singer to the pop princess she is today, the gal is a chameleon!

Taylor Swift’s Style Philosophy

24-year old Taylor has one of the most relatable wardrobes of any pop star. While many of her contemporaries make shocking costumes, drama, glamour and unabashed sex appeal their trademark, Taylor prefers to wear clothes that her young fans can easily pick up and wear to school or college.

Shake It Out has been in our minds since it was released about a month ago, so now it’s time to embrace those fun stereotypes:

Vintage

Like the glittery flapper style dress above, Taylor is a fan of the vintage style and is unmistakably her trademark. Keep it authentic by buying real vintage from a reputable dealer or scouring eBay. You can get amazing second hand watches (Chanel, Rolex and Gucci to namedrop just three!) from stores such as www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk for a fraction of the price. You can also buy beautiful brand new dresses (and have a better chance of finding your size.) For decades, stick to the 50s and 60s to imitate Taylor’s throwback country style.

Polka dots vs Stripes

The age old question! There is no reason why you can’t sport both, Taylor certainly does. Polka dots are a classic vintage-look print and work best in zingy strawberry red on white or cream. Complete this with the signature matt red lip and ballerina pumps and you have yourself a look the songstress will want to emulate.

Stripes are a perfect mod print that can make any look playful yet conservative. Monochrome has that ‘classic cool’ factor with vertical strips adding length to your torso if you are self-conscious. However, at 5ft9, Taylor doesn’t exactly need anymore height! Horizontal stripes are even more ‘classic cool’ and can channel your inner nautical streak. Team a black and white stripes top with red accessories for the perfect autumn style.

The only rule is – don’t wear both together! Master these two prints individually and you will have one staple of Taylor’s look nailed.

Satchels

Taylor is sometimes seen with pricey handbags from Smythson and Louboutin, but the bag that screams ‘Taylor Swift’? The satchel. For the most Swift-appeal, buy yours in a caramel brown colour. Whilst the neon hues have a certain wow factor, you just can’t beat the classic tones of black, cream and brown when it comes to your satchel.

Satchels are perfect for students and girls with notebooks, textbooks, and cameras to carry around with them. Perhaps your satchel will contain a notebook with the chords and lyrics to your own Swift-inspired music.

Red lipstick

Tayor’s last album titled ‘Red’ and in terms of style, there couldn’t be a colour more adept. The main theme expressed through her makeup, Taylor is rarely seen without classic red lipstick painted onto her beautifully full lips.

Previously the face of the brand Covergirl Lip Perfection, this is Taylor’s lipstick of choice.  As the perfect complement, Taylor pairs her red lips with a precision black cat-eye.

The smart flat

As a tall lady, Taylor is more frequently seen in flats, and who can blame her. Not only perfect if you’re feeling a tad self-conscious (although you definitely sshouldn’t but the comfort factor is 100%. Why would you stumble about in towering painful heels when you can ‘do a Taylor’ and strut in beautiful ballerina pumps of smart loafers?

Her shoe of choice is usually the Oxford (or brogue, depending on which terminology you prefer) or a cute ballet shoe with a adorable kitten motif (see Charlotte Olympia or Marc Jacobs.)

Stomping boots

Although Taylor’s shows frequently contain at least eight costume changes, she always relies on a pair of trusty black knee-riding equestrian-style boots to get her through the show. They’re sexy but utterly comfortable and flatter the range of sweet and girly frocks that she wears onstage. So try a pair of go-with-everything knee length boots to spice up outfits both dressy and wintery.

Follow these suggestions and your style will be giving Taylor’s classic and chic Americana look a run for her money in no time. Taylor claims that she dresses only for herself and her classic and comfortable style makes her feel happy and confident. This definitely comes across in her candids and photoshoots and few can deny that Taylor is one of the most stylish Hollywood stars of today.
