Caring for Oily Skin
There are several different types of skin that you can have.
There is dry skin, oily skin, and combination skin. Each skin type
has its own unique set of complications and care needs, and oily
skin is not exception.
Selecting the Right Products for Your Skin
The first thing that you need to do to take care of your oily
skin is to understand what products you should use on your skin
and which products you should avoid. Most skin care products will
be labeled with the type of skin that the product is designed for.
If you have oily skin you will not want to use a product that has
been designed for normal or dry skin. If you use products that are
designed for normal or dry skin you can actually increase the
oiliness of your skin, and you can also create new skin problems.
For the best results, make sure that the products that you use are
oil-free or designed for oily skin.
Cleaning Techniques for Oily Skin
Now that you know how to select products for oily skin, you
next need to understand what products to use and what cleaning
techniques to use to get the best results. For oily skin you will
need a cleanser, toner, oil absorbers, and make-up designed for
oily skin.
When you first wake up in the morning you will want to wash
your face with a cleanser that is designed for oily skin. You will
want to do this even if you aren’t going to put on make-up until
later in the day. Next use a toner to remove oil, dirt, debris,
and make-up that the cleanser missed, and to balance your skin’s
pH level. Next apply a moisturizer that is designed for oily skin.
Don’t use a heavy moisturizer, or one that is greasy. Next apply
your oil free makeup and powder.
Later in the day you will probably notice that your face is
beginning to shine from the oil that your skin has produced during
the day. The oiliness of your skin will tend to increase as the
temperature rises so make sure that you bring an oil absorbing
sponge or cloth with you to work or to the beach during warmer
months. For people with extremely oily skin an oil absorbing cloth
should be carried with you wherever you go for quick blots.
At the end of your day make sure that you again clean and
moisturize your skin. You may also want to try a face mask at
night to get rid of as much excess oil as possible before you go
to sleep.
Diet Changes
Another thing that you can do to reduce the oiliness of your
skin is to adjust your diet. People whose diet is made up of
processed foods that are high in fat and salt tend to have oilier
skin. By adjusting your diet to include more fruits, vegetables,
and whole foods you will be able to impact the health, texture,
and appearance of your skin.
