Creating Your Style

By Margaret Thomson
President, Scarves by Margaret

Scarf: According to Webster’s definition…a long or broad piece of cloth worn about the neck, head or shoulders for warmth or decoration.

One of the new trends in warm winter scarves are knitted in a new yarn called Funfur. If you knit you are ahead of the crowd since they are very easy to make either in the Funfur alone or combined with Mohair yarn. The colors come in a wide range so pick a color that will best compliment your skin tones and your coat or jacket…These are truly fun scarves and a great conversation piece. Some of the major stores carry these scarves and you may also need to search the Internet for other sources. Some of the scarves may be long enough to wrap your neck one time and let the ends fall with length of your coat or jacket.

Scarves have long been an important accessory to an outfit. In Paris many stores are totally devoted just to scarves. French women buy a few top-quality garments, wear them frequently and change the look with accessories. The right scarf will make an outfit look finished and transform any outfit to your own personal style.

One great benefit of using scarves is that you can change the look of an outfit. For example, wear a casual scarf with your suit or dress during the day at the office then just changing to a dressy scarf for evening. Also a scarf can be a great conversation piece at a party, especially a unique shape, pattern or design. Add a white satin scarf to black pants, top and jacket and you have the tuxedo look.

When matching scarves to outfits don’t be timid. Contrasting or bold colors can jazz up a conservative suite or dress and pizzazz to a skirt and sweater or blouse. Find colors that compliment your skin tones and don’t be afraid to make your statement of personal style.

About Margaret

My name is Margaret, a single senior entrepreneur at age 72. Frustrated with tying and arranging regular scarves I designed a scarf that slips over the head and drapes automatically. Many of my co-workers wanted to purchase my new scarf design and I decided to into business when I retired…. I lost my job at age 62 due to downsizing and unable to locate another job, I started my business sooner than expected. I applied for a US Patent and Trademark the following year and entered Art and Craft shows to promote my new scarf. I recently designed a cotton Turban Scarf for Cancer patients and just joined the Alopecia Areata Foundation as part of their shopping section. The Internet is a perfect solution for me, now my main focus is methods of marketing on the Internet.
