How to Look Good in your Maternity Clothes

Buying maternity clothes isn’t something most women look forward to, and why would they? Most women associate maternity wear as being drab and awkward to wear, however this is far from the truth! In honesty buying new clothes to flaunt your baby bump can be as easy or as difficult as you make it, all you need is a little knowledge to help you along the way. Luckily, we’ve come up with four easy to follow tips that will help you when it comes to choosing some new outfits during pregnancy.

How to Look Good in your Maternity Clothes

1. Know Your Size

This is the most important step you need to take before you invest in a new wardrobe. Comfort should be your top priority, especially if you want to look good, and so knowing your size before you buy is of utmost importance. Because your body is constantly changing when you’re pregnant, it’s a lot better to buy your maternity clothes as you need them, rather than in one bunch. You won’t know what size you’ll grow in to, and so there’s no point in wasting money on larger maternity clothes that may never actually fit.

Generally speaking, you’ll be the same size in maternity clothes as you are in regular ones. For example, if you’re a size medium now, you’ll need to buy size medium maternity clothes. The further you get in to your pregnancy the larger you’ll be, and so towards the end it’s worthwhile trying on different sizes to see which fits best rather than going off of the labels. Also, different styles of clothing sit differently, and so you may be a different size in your jeans than in a dress, again you should try on different sizes to see what you feel most comfortable in.

2. Find a Style You Like

Now that, you know what size you’re going to need to buy, you should start searching for styles that you like. A bit of window shopping can come in a lot of handy here as you can see what type of maternity wear is available. You can see the different fashions and styles available and get an idea of how much the clothing costs. Looking online at fashion websites and dedicated maternity wear sellers will also give you some ideas for outfits you can put together.

Remember, you’re going to want a few styles of clothing, from clothes to wear around the house to an evening dress should you go out at night. Whilst there’s a multitude of styles available you’ll want to try as many of them on as you can to make sure you feel comfortable and look your best before buying!

3. Try It On!

Once you’ve found a style that you’re keen on it’s time to get out there and try on some clothes! Organising a day to go out and visit some clothes shops with your friends and family is a great opportunity to find the styles that you like. You can visit fashion retailers, most of whom now sell maternity ranges, and try on a range of stylish clothes. If you buy your maternity wear from shops like these it often means that you don’t have to change your style as they make their maternity options much alike to their normal range.

You can also visit dedicated maternity wear shops like Bump Baby and Beyond, which are become increasingly popular. The clothes found in these shops are often more comfortable than those from fashion retailers. This is because the styles are designed around a pregnancy bump, rather than adapted to fit it, and so the clothes sit a lot better. Often these shops also have wearable bumps so you can see how your clothing will look once your bump grows!

4. Get Buying

Now that you’ve completed the first three steps you’re finally ready to start buying your maternity wear! If you know which styles you like and what suits you well you can use a number of places to get your clothes from. For example, you can buy online, in store or even order from catalogues. You can find websites by searching for terms such as cheap maternity wear Australia, which will help you find local retailers to get your clothing from. Remember you should feel 100% comfortable in the clothing that you buy, and don’t make a purchase if you aren’t sure about it!
