Avoid the Pinch! Wear Green and Look Great Whether It’s Last Minute or a Planned Ensemble
St. Patrick's Day Fashion

The tradition of wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day, like everything else associated with the holiday, stems from the Irish. Because one can’t even think of Ireland without thinking of all things green, it only makes sense that on this day to celebrate the Irish, we dress ourselves in as much green as we can. And dressing in green is an absolute must if you plan on going anywhere on St. Patrick’s Day. Tradition says that those who do not wear green on this holiday, will be reprimanded with a small pinch. So, avoid the pinch! Go green in a whole new way!

If you have the foresight and are a good planner, you can plan to have a gorgeous green outfit for any St. Patrick’s Day event that you may be attending. Skirts and dresses are replacing the skinny jean this year as the number one fashion trend for women. Because St. Patrick’s Day festivities often involve a lot of activity, whether it be shaking it on a dance floor, making your way around a buffet table, or attending a parade, you want to make sure you are still wearing something comfortable and practical while remaining gorgeous. You can slip on some dark leggings, which are huge this year underneath a very cute green skirt or a green shirtdress, which are also a hot item when paired with leggings.

If you really don’t think that green looks all that spectacular on you, there is no need to exclude yourself from this part of the fun. Simply wear the same outfit but change the colours. To avoid that dreaded pinch, place a green belt around the shirtdress, or wear green shoes. Find some fabulous green earrings and slip them on or wear a vibrant green necklace or bracelet.

And if the holiday has just crept up on you way too fast this year and you’re left on the morning of March 17th thinking you have nothing festive to wear, there are many things that can be done at the last minute to show off your green threads. First and foremost, search your closet for anything that may be green. Something as simple as placing a green blazer over a white or black shirt will help keep you on track with the theme. Or you can search your accessories drawer for something as simple as a headband. It needn’t be entirely green. As long as you are wearing green somewhere on your person, people will have no reason to pinch you!

And remember to keep all of those pins and other small items you may receive on St. Patrick’s Day and keep them for the next year. These accessories are usually green and have quotations on them such as “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” or “The Luck of the Irish.” Some may simply be a pin of a leprechaun. Whatever they are and no matter how silly they may seem, they could serve you well the following year when you are searching your house from top to bottom for something to wear to avoid the pinch!
