Black, Lace and More: Holiday Party Fashion Trends

Fall-Winter collections are in stores and it’s time to get thinking of that time of the year. Autumn and winter months fill your planners with not just holiday parties but also wedding receptions. Festive as the season is, it is also a time of panic for many women. What am I going to wear? As you stare at your closet or walk through the mall searching for the perfect outfit, remember these two popular trends for the holidays: Black and Lace.

Holiday Party Fashion

Elegant in Black

Black is always going to be popular during the holiday season. It is also very easy for black to transcend events. It can be casual; you can dress it up. And there are an endless number of ways a black dress can be accented. Check out some of our favorite styles from this season.

Saint Laurent’s all-black babydoll dress is the LBD of the year. You won’t need much to accessorize it!

The good news for women who have at least one black outfit hidden in their closet is that black gets a unanimous vote this year. With the plethora of all black dresses seen on the runway this year, Vogue editors seem to agree that black is the choice for evening wear this coming season.

Lovely in lace

Opulent and revealing fabrics such as lace are another hot trend. Lace trim has a very “romantic” feel to it. The revealing lace theme that flashes a little is popular. Lace gowns need no further embellishment. Keep everything else simple when opting for a semi-sheer style.

Lace Bottom Evening Gown - Ginger and Smart
The ‘Dark Angel’ gown from ‘Ginger and Smart’ with the lace bottom is one piece to invest in, this season. Black keeps it classic, and the plunging neckline and semi-sheer lace skirt makes it sexy.

When it comes to hemlines, there seems to be a lot of variety this winter – everything from asymmetrical lines to uneven lace trim to a handkerchief hem to the short in front/long in back look.

Even if you do not wish to spend on a whole new outfit, you can keep your style fresh by updating your look with a piece or two of the latest style boutique clothing by Ginger ans Smart. A lace back on sweaters, lace front on shirts, lace skirts are all set to rule.

If you’re not interested in wearing a dress to your holiday party or event, consider buying separate pieces. A great idea would be pairing black pants or a skirt with and topping the outfit off with a stylish shirt that has an interesting detail like an exaggerated faux fur collar or a lace back.

Beyond Black

But if you don’t opt for the traditional black dress, there are other choices for you this season. Red is always a seasonal and festive color.

As a whole, the holiday season is usually about rich colors—colors that are opulent and decadent. Rich textures, such as burnt velvet, are also popular this season.

Necklines that get noticed

Interesting Necklines for Holiday Party Fashions
The variety of interesting necklines is sure to spoil you silly, for sure!

Once you know what you want to wear, we suggest spending some more time choosing a neckline that flatters your shape. And if you have a special piece of jewelry, such as a necklace or a trendy pair of long drop earrings, select a neckline that will complement, rather than distract the eye from, the jewelry.

Remember, whichever trend you decide to follow this winter, wear it with confidence and make it your own.
