You’ve got beauty questions? We’ve got the answers!

After all, even Plato, the Greek philosopher, said “Now I know that I know nothing”. With that in mind, we have the answers to some of the most common beauty questions, and some more challenging ones.

Here are they!

How do I start a beauty routine?

This is the most commonly asked question beginners ask. It is hard to know where to start. And if you are just entering the world of beauty, it can feel overwhelming.

The simplest way to start a beauty routine is the three-step system. That includes a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, but from the same brand.

A cleanser will make sure there is no dirt, sweat, oils, bacteria, and other buildups in your skin. Then you apply a toner to balance the pH value of your skin and complexion and provide a barrier that keeps bacteria out. And you finish off a moisturizer that hydrates your skin and gives a youthful look.

What is the order for applying products?

When it comes to the order of products, you should follow the order of thickness. That means starting with a cleanser, followed by a toner or a wipe, then an essence, serum, oil, add an SPF product later on, and finish off with a cream or lotion. If you use powder SPF and skip makeup, always apply powder as the last step. Many people also ask how to apply toner, but that is a story for another time.

If you apply makeup, start with a foundation, followed by concealer, and then powder and blush.

How to wear false eyelashes

Even professionals and experienced makeup artists have troubles wearing and applying false eyelashes. Here is a step by step guide how to wear them.

  1. Get a clear glue, and apply it to the last strip
  2. Wait for 30 seconds for the glue to get tacky
  3. Grab tweezers, and hold a strip of lashes from the middle, and place the middle section of the lashes first
  4. Press down on the outer part, and then on the inner
  5. During the entire process, stand in front of a mirror, so that you watch what are you doing

Should I visit a dermatologist?

Even if you have no skin issues, it is a good idea to schedule a visit to the dermatologist office once per year. This is just to make sure anything is OK. And to see if there are any suspicious moles or marks. But if you notice a new skin condition forming, or if you experience frequent breakouts, visit the dermatologist immediately.

How often I should wash my face?

The answer to this question depends on what type of skin you have. For example, if you have oily skin, you should wash it two times per day, once in the morning, and once in the evening. If you do not have oily skin, you can get away with washing it only at night and using a toner and moisturizer in the morning.

But no matter your skin type, you should never skip washing in the evening. All that dirt, oil, bacteria, and makeup buildup can clog your pores if you do not wash your face.

How to take care of acne?

There are different approaches when solving an acne problem. And the reality is, no one works for all people.

For starters, you can try some natural remedies, like baking soda, lemon, honey, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, green tea, or aloe vera. If those do not work, you can step up with products with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Spot treatment with tea tree oil usually works, as it is the most potent anti-bacterial treatment.

If you are more into medical treatments, you can try anti-acne face washes, oral medications, or pH balancing skin care treatment.

As a last resort, ask your dermatologist for something like Accutane, a derivative of vitamin A that falls in the retinoid family.

What causes acne?

There are different types of acne and different causes of acne. There is no one clear answer to what causes acne. Starting from hormones, stress, and some bacteria. While the cause of acne is not always known, dermatologists have mapped the path acne appear. When oil, dirt, bacteria, or any other debris clog your pores, acne appears. Bacteria usually feed off the oil your sebaceous glands produce.

When should I apply sunscreen?

The simple answer here is anytime you leave your home. No matter where you use sunscreen, whether it is your face or body, make sure it contains an SPF of 30 to 50. Also, make sure it is broad-spectrum, which means your sunscreen protects you against UVA and UVB.

On your face, apply gel sunscreen, or a lotion that is noncomedogenic. The latter means the lotion sunscreen does not contain pore-clogging ingredients. For your body, 1-ounce shot glass will cover your entire body from the neck down. If you go with spray, make sure you do not miss any spots.

Does sunburn mean skin cancer?

People often panic when they get a sunburn. And while sunburn can sometimes lead to skin cancer, that doesn’t mean you should panic immediately. Getting one sunburn does not mean you are going to get skin cancer. However, any sun exposure without sunscreen will cause damage to your skin. And over time, that damage piles up, and can eventually result in skin cancer.

How to get even skin tone?

  • Use sunscreen on a regular basis to prevent sun damage and dark spots appearing due to sun rays

People who are sensitive to alcohol have a hard time removing eye makeup. Why? Because most of the cleansing products have some amount of alcohol in them. What you can do is try mineral oils, and then an oil cleanser.

Micellar water is the latest trendy product for skin care, and it can also help you remove eye makeup. Apply micellar water on a cotton pad, and then gently press it to your eye for a few seconds.
